Houston Living: Brunch at Jupiter

Whether you’re a native Houstonian or you’re simply in town for a weekend getaway, hitting the Houston brunch scene on a sunny Saturday or Sunday morning should be at the top of your must-do list. I’ve started to consider myself somewhat of a brunch connoisseur, seeing as breakfast is my favorite meal of the day but I love to sleep in. Houston and its surrounding suburbs are home to some delicious cuisine, but today I want to feature my current favorite brunch gem. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the inner loop, and head out to Sugar Land to Jupiter Pizza and Waffle Company.

Featuring stone-baked pizza, Belgian waffles, barista-grade coffee, and a vast selection of craft beer, this locally owned fusion concept has quickly taken its place as one of the Houston metropolitan area’s favorite brunch spots. Jupiter prides itself on its local roots, organic ingredients and sustainable recipes, as well as its trendy, industrial-chic atmosphere and unique cuisine, including its staple chicken and waffles.

I’ve been to Jupiter countless times, and the food tastes better each visit. The first few times I went, I ordered the Southern Belle, a delicious combo of breasted chicken and a waffle with the perfect balance of fluff and sweetness. After a few visits, I decided to break my Southern Belle addiction to try the Just Wing It, a platter of buffalo chicken wings — with the perfect amount of spice for my Texan palate — and a trio of waffles, of course. After trying both I simply cannot choose which is my favorite, but I’ll be back plenty more times to figure it out.

If you’re going to Jupiter for lunch or dinner, I don’t think you can go wrong with one of their delicious pizzas. I personally haven’t tried one (like I said, breakfast addict over here), but I’m almost certain they're equally as delicious as the chicken and waffles. It isn't called the Pizza and Waffle Company for nothing, right?

Keep in mind: If you plan to dine in on the weekend, you might encounter a wait for a table. No worries, though! The food is seriously worth every second, and you can enjoy a delicious pomegranate mimosa at the bar or on the patio while you wait. (Seriously, try the pomegranate mimosa. It’s delightful.)

In short, if you’re looking for a quirky-chic eatery with a unique menu full of flavor and a friendly, tentative staff, try out Jupiter. Let me know how you like it!
